Groupe Tomapure, a company with strong environmental values

Every employer now bears a responsibility for taking action to protect the environment, and at Groupe Tomapure, we’re committed to preserving our planet. This is why we’ve implemented a comprehensive series of actions to reduce the company’s ecological footprint as much as possible. A much-needed reduction in waste management
In 2019, we called on a specialized firm to improve waste management at Groupe Tomapure. The firm’s analysis estimated that our company sends 335 metric tons of garbage to landfills each year. We quickly took action to drastically reduce our waste and send it to compost sites instead. To this end, all of our organic materials are now composted and all of our cardboard, recycled. As a result of these concrete actions, we estimate that we’ve diverted 277 metric tons of waste to composting. This leaves 58 metric tons of waste that is still sent to the sorting centre, but we estimate that 82.5% of our waste is sent to compost. However, since these measures have been in place for less than a year, we’ll need to wait a full year to confirm our estimates.
To reduce single-use plastic waste, we provided all our employees with a reusable water bottle, which they can refill at the various water stations available at various locations throughout the company’s facilities. To save on paper, we’ve switched from traditional paper pay cheques to electronic transfers, and more than 90% of employees now receive their pay in this way.
Reducing our energy consumption to save more
Reducing waste also means reducing energy consumption. To this effect, we’ve set up an automatic lights-out system and have also installed programmable thermostats that make it possible to lower the temperature at night. Thanks to all these actions, we are now saving 45% on costs every month!
A forward-looking vision
In keeping with our pro-environment approach, we’ve switched our fruit and vegetable cleaning and processing products to environmentally friendly solutions. Even our household cleaning products are now organic, which is a less harmful option for both the environment and all our employees.
To further optimize Groupe Tomapure’s actions, we are looking to recycle our remaining residual materials by giving them a new lease on life. In step with this initiative, our General Manager, Marc-André Larivée, sits on the Symbiose industrielle Laval Committee set up by the Chambre de commerce et d’industrie de Laval (CCIL). which makes it possible for him to collaborate with other entrepreneurs committed to furthering the environmental cause among Laval businesses. We believe that every small gesture counts and that it’s the duty of every business and its employees to take concrete action to ensure the planet is preserved for the sake of future generations.
